2. IT IS PRIVATE:
The people directly involved in the mediation alone are
in attendance. Generally this is the two individuals
seeking a divorce and the mediator. If deemed
necessary by all three of these parties, others may be
brought into the sessions [including legal or financial
representation]. Presentation of facts by additional
persons may become part of the mediation process,
but this comes about only as a last resort when
mediation is not progressing.

3. IT IS CONFIDENTIAL:
Every aspect of the mediation process is kept
between the individuals seeking a divorce and the
mediator.

4. IT MEANS SELF-DETERMINATION:
The individuals seeking the divorce create their
solutions and make their own decisions.

5. IT IS INFORMED DECISION MAKING:
The individuals seeking the divorce are provided with
substantial information with which to make sound and
responsible decisions regarding their settlement.

6. IT PUTS CHILDREN FIRST:
Custody and Parenting Plans worked out with solid
information about the development and well-being of
children, whose parents are divorced, insure the best
decisions will be made for your kids.

ICM  -  WHAT IS MEDIATION?          888.245.3993   ~   dean@icmediation.net

WHAT MEDIATION IS…
•        It is the involvement of a neutral third party to guide you through a process so that
you are able to make your own decisions about your divorce;

•        It is a structured way of reaching agreements regarding custody, visitation, division
of assets, spousal support [alimony] and other disputed issues;

•        It is an alternative to litigation. In mediation, both individuals have control over the
preparation of the official divorce agreement, rather than attorneys and the court system.

WHAT MEDIATION IS NOT...
•        It is not marriage counseling to mediate your issues as a couple.

•        It is not a last-ditch effort to prevent a divorce from happening.

•        It is not a substitute for legal advice [though much information is shared and clarified
regarding the divorce process and procedures during the mediation].

MEDIATION IS UNIQUE IN
THESE SIX WAYS...

1. IT IS VOLUNTARY:
Attending mediation appointments is voluntary and  no final
outcome will be imposed on either party. The resolution that
is reached will be mutually agreed upon.
