The Three Steps of
Divorce in Illinois
|
First, one spouse FILES FOR DISSOLUTION OF MARRIAGE at the county
courthouse in which either spouse has resided for six months.
Second, a SETTLEMENT IS WORKED OUT, an agreement between the
divorcing spouses as to division of assets and liabilities, custody and visitation.*
Third, after the Settlement is filed with the court and a JUDGMENT FOR
DISSOLUTION OF MARRIAGE finalizes the divorce.
